At the QS-B220 a trace sample is collected onto a trap material which is inserted into the system. The sample trap is heated to release Vapor from any explosive and narcotic traces that were collected. The Vapor is drawn into two cascaded ion sources (1x negative, 1 positive) ionized, and exhausted from the system. Explosives and narcotics detection and identification is based on the measurements of molecular ion mobility within a drift tube. The use of two different tubes allows explosives and drug detection the same time. If careful trated traps can be used several times.
